NIDO Living Presents:
Land + Earth
Curated by Alexandra Ray
Featuring artists from the Bay area and Los Angeles, we investigate a sense of curiosity in differing perspectives on land and elemental aspects of living on this tremendous planet. In Amir Zaki’s photographs we zoom into observations in the natural world and then zoom out to gain an aerial perspective from above as in the case of photographer, Jock McDonald’s airport and spaghetti junction perspectives. A sense of pure emotion and almost spiritual harmonics are present in the geological paintings of Paul Seftel, using raw minerals and pigments in his work, and also in the abstract studies of clouds in Dan Warth’s canvases. From urban sprawls to the elemental and remote, we see how man has inhabited space on earth and in the air. In Valerie Thompson’s evocative photographs set in Joshua Tree, the land becomes a playground of illusion that we project onto. … as if nature isn’t enough---- isn’t that how man has used the Earth since the beginning of time?
